TEHRAN/WASHINGTON, August 4, 2026 – Tensions between the United States and Iran remain high as Tehran condemned Washington’s naval blockade of its ports, while US President Donald Trump described ongoing diplomatic efforts as Iran’s “last opportunity” to reach a deal and end the five-month conflict.
Senior Iranian military adviser Mohsen Rezaei warned that continued US naval operations targeting Iranian ports could have serious consequences, saying American vessels and military forces would face “serious risks and casualties” if the blockade persists.
President Trump, however, insisted that negotiations with Iran are under way, expressing hope that diplomacy could still prevent further escalation. He said the current discussions represent Tehran’s final chance to secure an agreement.
Iran rejected Trump’s claims, maintaining that it is not engaged in direct talks with Washington. Instead, Iranian officials said discussions are taking place with Oman regarding the security and navigation of the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
Meanwhile, the White House’s Board of Peace stated that Hamas must completely disarm before Israel withdraws its forces from Gaza, a position that follows objections from Israeli officials to previous ceasefire proposals.
On the ground, violence continued in Gaza, where Israeli military strikes reportedly killed two Palestinians in Gaza City, according to local reports.
The latest developments underscore the fragile state of regional diplomacy as efforts to de-escalate tensions continue amid ongoing military confrontations in both the Gulf and Gaza.
