RANGWE, Kenya — Kagan Open Troop, in partnership with the Rangwe Sub-County Scouts Association, on Sunday led a youth peace walk in Rangwe as part of efforts to promote dialogue, tolerance and peaceful communities ahead of Kenya’s upcoming General Elections.
About 20 young people took part in the initiative, which was held under the theme, “Empowering Young People to Promote Dialogue and Peaceful Communities.”
The participants moved through Rangwe, engaging traders, young people and other community members at Rangwe Market on the importance of peaceful coexistence and constructive dialogue.
The initiative ended at Rangwe Police Station, where the group met the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) to discuss the role of Scouts as Messengers of Peace and the importance of involving young people in community peacebuilding efforts.
Kagan Open Troop said the initiative was aimed at encouraging young people to become active promoters of peace and dialogue within their communities, particularly as Kenya prepares for the elections.
The organisers emphasised the need for communities to embrace tolerance and resolve differences through dialogue rather than confrontation.
The peace walk forms part of broader efforts by the Scouts movement to use youth participation and community engagement to promote peaceful communities.
While Sunday’s walk ended in Rangwe, organisers said the campaign to sensitise communities on peace and dialogue would continue.
“The walk ended. The mission continues,” the organisers said.
The initiative also called on young people to take a leading role in promoting unity and peaceful coexistence in their communities.
