Dubai Forum Pushes Indian Family Businesses Toward Stronger Governance and Future Growth

By Staff Reporter

Dubai Chambers, in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy and Tourism and the Indian Business and Professional Council, hosted a specialised forum aimed at strengthening governance within Indian family businesses operating in Dubai.

The event brought together 87 participants from the Indian business community, focusing on key areas such as governance structures, succession planning, and strategies to enhance competitiveness in both local and international markets.

The forum was attended by the Minister of Economy and Tourism, Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, alongside Mohammad Ali Rashed Lootah, President and CEO of Dubai Chambers. Discussions highlighted the importance of Federal Decree Law No. 37 of 2022 on Family Businesses, which is designed to create a supportive legal framework that promotes sustainability and long-term growth for family-owned enterprises.

Speaking at the event, Bin Touq Al Marri emphasized the significant role family businesses play in the UAE economy. He noted that they contribute around 60% of the country’s GDP, provide employment to 80% of the workforce, and account for nearly 90% of private sector companies. He encouraged family businesses to register with the Unified Family Business Registry, a federal platform offering services such as company registration, certification, and the documentation of family charters.

Lootah reaffirmed Dubai Chambers’ commitment to helping family businesses transition into more structured and institutionalised entities, ensuring their readiness for future expansion and sustained success.

In addition, the Dubai Centre for Family Businesses introduced three advisory services launched in 2025, including situation assessments, family charter development, and family office planning. The centre also unveiled its first directory of family business advisors in Dubai, aimed at connecting companies with experienced professionals across various operational fields.
