DUBAI – Dubai Municipality will manage, operate and maintain the Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls project following a new agreement signed with the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA).
The two entities signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during the 28th Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX 2026), being held at Dubai World Trade Centre from October 20 to 22.
DEWA Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer and Dubai Municipality Director General Marwan bin Ghalita signed the agreement in the presence of senior officials from both organisations.
Under the agreement, Dubai Municipality will assume responsibility for managing, operating, maintaining and developing the project’s existing buildings, facilities and assets.
The MoU also establishes arrangements for leasing shops and other facilities, clarifies the responsibilities of both entities and provides for the supervision of leased properties and tenants in accordance with applicable regulations.
The partnership is intended to strengthen the long-term sustainability of the project’s assets while maximising benefits for Hatta residents and visitors.
Al Tayer said the agreement supports the directives of UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Dubai Ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to promote sustainable development in Hatta, enhance its appeal as a tourism and investment destination, and protect its natural environment and heritage.
He said DEWA had sought to ensure that the Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls project contributed beyond tourism by supporting social and economic development and creating lasting opportunities for the local community.
The agreement reflects cooperation between DEWA and Dubai Municipality in advancing Hatta’s development while ensuring the sustainable management of the project’s facilities.
