DUBAI – Parts of the United Arab Emirates are expected to experience four consecutive days of cloud formation and scattered rainfall from Tuesday through Friday as seasonal weather conditions known locally as the “Rawayeh” take hold across the country.

According to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), convective clouds are forecast to develop from Tuesday afternoon over some western coastal areas and parts of the eastern region, bringing the possibility of scattered showers.

The unstable weather conditions are expected to continue through Wednesday and Thursday, with the greatest likelihood of cloud build-up and rainfall concentrated over eastern and mountainous areas. Similar conditions may persist into Friday, extending the period of unsettled weather across several regions.

Areas such as Fujairah, Khor Fakkan, Kalba and Masafi are expected to receive the highest chances of rainfall during the week, while parts of the Al Dhafra region could be among the first locations to witness showers from Tuesday afternoon.

Meteorologists say the weather pattern coincides with the beginning of the UAE’s traditional “Rawayeh” season, a period characterised by rising temperatures and increased moisture levels that help generate towering convective clouds capable of producing localised showers and thunderstorms.

Although widespread rainfall is not anticipated, the intensity and distribution of showers may vary depending on cloud development in different areas.

Humidity levels are also expected to increase during the night and early morning hours, particularly in western coastal and inland regions. This may lead to the formation of fog and mist in some locations between Tuesday and Thursday mornings.

Winds are forecast to remain light to moderate overall but could become stronger at times, reaching speeds of up to 40 kilometres per hour on Wednesday and Thursday. Active northwesterly winds are expected over western areas on Thursday, potentially causing blowing dust and reduced visibility.

Forecasters also predict a slight drop in temperatures towards the end of the week, especially across western parts of the country. The cooler conditions will offer some relief following several days of intense summer heat.

The Emirates Astronomy Society recently confirmed that the UAE has entered the astronomical summer season, with hot weather expected to persist through early August. During this period, seasonal “Barah” winds can trigger dust and sand movement, while the latter half of summer often brings higher humidity and increased thunderstorm activity over the Hajar Mountains.
