DUBAI — The 24th Arab Media Summit opened in Dubai on Tuesday, bringing together the largest gathering of government officials, journalists, media executives and content creators in the event’s history.
Held under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and the directives of Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the three-day summit runs until September 17 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
Mona Ghanem Al Marri, chairperson of the summit’s organising committee, said the expanded programme reflects major economic, technological and geopolitical changes reshaping the media industry.
The summit features eight specialised forums focused on strengthening the competitiveness of Arab media and creating new opportunities for cooperation across the region and internationally.
Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum is scheduled to deliver the keynote address.
Senior UAE officials taking part include Dr Anwar Gargash, Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri and Noura Al Kaabi. International participants include GCC Secretary General Jasem Albudaiwi and White House adviser Massad Boulos.
Information ministers from Bahrain, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt and Jordan are also attending the summit.
The event has attracted prominent international media figures, including Reuters News President Paul Bascobert, AFP Global News Director Phil Chetwynd and journalist Hala Gorani.
More than 175 sessions will be held over the three days, bringing together officials, editors, journalists, analysts, writers and content creators from 23 countries.
The programme includes the Arab Media Forum, Government Communication Forum, Arab Youth Media Forum, Films Forum, Games Forum, Dubai PodFest, Arab Social Media Influencers Summit and Euronews Forum.
Three award ceremonies will also be held during the summit to recognise achievements in youth media, journalism and social media influence.
The summit comes as media organisations across the Arab region and globally navigate rapid advances in technology, changing audience behaviour and a shifting geopolitical environment.
