Meta has unveiled new paid subscription tiers for its biggest platforms — Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp — in a major shift aimed at reducing the company’s heavy dependence on advertising revenue.
The new services, branded Instagram Plus, Facebook Plus, and WhatsApp Plus, were announced by Naomi Gleit in a video shared on Instagram. The subscriptions are being rolled out globally, with Meta also planning future premium offerings for businesses, creators and AI-powered products.
According to reports:
- Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus will cost $3.99 per month
- WhatsApp Plus will cost $2.99 per month
The premium plans will introduce additional features designed to enhance user engagement and personalization.
Features Included
Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus users will gain access to:
- Advanced analytics tools
- Story rewatch statistics
- Expanded audience reach
- Enhanced profile customization options
Meanwhile, WhatsApp Plus will focus on personalization features such as:
- Premium sticker packs
- Custom ringtones
- Exclusive app themes
Meta says it eventually plans to combine these offerings under a unified subscription brand called Meta One.
The announcement comes as Meta faces increasing investor scrutiny over its aggressive spending on artificial intelligence infrastructure. The company recently projected annual capital expenditures of between $125 billion and $145 billion, much of it tied to AI data center expansion.
Following the announcement, Meta’s stock climbed nearly three percent, signaling positive investor reaction to the company’s new revenue strategy.
