DUBAI- The government of Equatorial Guinea has collectively resigned after failing to achieve most of its development and governance targets, prompting a major political shake-up in the Central African nation.

Prime Minister Manuel Osa Nsue Nsua on Wednesday formally submitted the resignation of the entire cabinet, following growing concerns over the government’s performance after nearly two years in office.

Vice President Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue, the son of President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, said the decision reflects the administration’s commitment to accountability and results-driven governance.

According to the vice president, the government managed to accomplish only about 10 percent of its planned objectives during its tenure. However, specific details regarding the unmet targets were not disclosed.

In a statement issued by the ruling Democratic Party of Equatorial Guinea (PDGE), President Obiang criticized the outgoing administration for what he described as a lack of economic dynamism and the misuse of state resources.

The statement further accused some government officials of prioritizing personal interests and engaging in corrupt practices for illicit enrichment, undermining national development efforts.

President Obiang has pledged to appoint a new and more effective cabinet that will accelerate the implementation of the country’s development programmes and strategic projects.

The reshuffle comes as Equatorial Guinea seeks to strengthen economic performance and improve governance amid increasing pressure to deliver tangible results for its citizens.

President Obiang, who has ruled the country since 1979, is expected to announce the composition of the new government in the coming days.
