Kansas City, USA – England’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup have suffered an unexpected setback after football equipment, including boots and training balls, was reportedly stolen ahead of the team’s arrival at their training base in Kansas City.
According to reports, vehicles transporting equipment to England’s training facility at Swope Soccer Village were broken into, with several items missing before the squad reached the venue.
The Football Association (FA) confirmed that an incident had taken place but declined to provide further details, stating that the matter is now under police investigation.
The Kansas City, Missouri Police Department told local media that officers are investigating a possible theft involving a team vehicle that arrived in the city with equipment missing.
“We are investigating a possible theft of equipment from a team vehicle that arrived in Kansas City with items missing this evening. The investigation is ongoing,” police said.
British media outlet BBC reported that two arrests have reportedly been made in connection with the incident.
Despite the disruption, coach Thomas Tuchel and his squad are expected to hold their first training session at Swope Soccer Village on Saturday evening after relocating from their pre-tournament base in Florida.
England will begin their World Cup campaign against Croatia on Wednesday before facing Ghana and Panama in Group L.
The incident comes just days before England’s opening match, adding an unwanted distraction as the team prepares for its quest for World Cup glory.
