DUBAI – Dubai has been ranked the world’s second-most intelligent city in a new global index by Boston Consulting Group (BCG), further strengthening the emirate’s reputation as a leader in artificial intelligence and digital transformation.
The inaugural Intelligent Cities Index placed Dubai first globally for the adoption of AI technologies and smart city solutions, recognising the emirate’s efforts to use advanced technology to improve government services, support businesses and enhance residents’ quality of life.
The index evaluated 61 cities across 39 countries, assessing their digital transformation across five areas: outcomes, strategy, adoption, ways of working and enablers.
The assessment was based on 35 indicators covering 14 dimensions of digital maturity.
Dubai’s leading position in AI adoption reflects the widespread use of advanced technologies across government services and various economic sectors. The report highlighted the emirate’s ability to turn investments in artificial intelligence into practical applications that generate measurable benefits for residents and businesses.
Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, Director General of Digital Dubai, said the ranking reflected the leadership’s long-term vision of placing digital transformation and AI at the centre of government efficiency, economic competitiveness and quality of life.
He said Dubai would continue investing in shared digital infrastructure while expanding the use of AI across different sectors.
Khalfan Juma Belhoul, Chief Executive Officer of the Dubai Future Foundation, said the ranking demonstrated Dubai’s ability to transform emerging technologies into practical solutions that improve productivity, encourage innovation and support sustainable growth.
According to the report, cities that place AI at the heart of public services tend to achieve better service delivery, higher levels of resident satisfaction and increased public trust.
Middle Eastern cities, including Dubai, were also identified as showing particularly strong momentum in the adoption of artificial intelligence.
The latest ranking reinforces Dubai’s ambition to position itself among the world’s leading smart cities and global centres for technology, innovation and AI.
