WASHINGTON — US President Donald Trump has warned that the United States could launch further attacks against Iran, saying Tehran faces a choice between reaching a deal with Washington or facing military action.
Trump made the remarks on Wednesday as tensions remained high between Washington and Tehran, with diplomatic efforts continuing over the conflict and the reopening of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
“We have a choice: make a deal or blow them up,” Trump told reporters, warning that the time for action was approaching.
US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, meanwhile, told military leaders at the Quantico Marine base that US forces had severely damaged Iran’s military capabilities, including its navy, air force, defence systems and military-industrial infrastructure.
The comments came as Iran said it had received a US response to a seven-day proposal aimed at easing the conflict and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran’s proposal, delivered through Qatari mediators, seeks steps toward restoring maritime traffic through the strategic waterway and resuming diplomatic efforts. Reuters reported that Tehran had received US feedback on the proposal, although major differences remain.
The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical flashpoint because of its importance to global energy supplies. Recent diplomatic efforts have focused on restoring normal shipping while addressing the wider US-Iran conflict.
With Trump threatening further military action while Tehran continues to pursue negotiations, the region remains on high alert.
