WASHINGTON — US President Donald Trump says the war involving Iran will end “very soon”, but has offered no details on how or when the conflict could come to an end.
Trump made the statement on social media as fighting and attacks linked to the conflict continued, while reiterating that Iran must not be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon.
The US president did not provide a timeline, explain whether negotiations were under way or outline any conditions for ending the war.
His remarks came as tensions remained high between Washington and Tehran, with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) separately issuing an open letter to US voters ahead of the country’s midterm elections.
The IRGC called on American voters to oppose the Trump administration, according to reports.
Meanwhile, oil shipments through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz have moved closer to pre-war levels despite continued attacks in the region.
Shipping data from Kpler showed that oil flows through the waterway averaged about 13.2 million barrels per day over the past week.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical global oil transit route, making developments around the conflict closely watched by energy markets and governments worldwide.
Trump has repeatedly said the United States will prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon, but his latest claim that the war will end “very soon” was not accompanied by details about any diplomatic or military plan.
