GENEVA, July 3, 2026 – The United Arab Emirates has called for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Sudan, warning that the escalating violence in and around El Obeid demonstrates that the conflict cannot be resolved through military means.

In a statement delivered during an urgent session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, the UAE stressed that the only sustainable solution is an immediate cessation of hostilities, coupled with an urgent humanitarian truce to alleviate the suffering of civilians.

The UAE strongly condemned all violations of international law committed by both sides of the conflict, including attacks targeting civilians and critical civilian infrastructure.

The statement also urged the international community to expand the existing United Nations arms embargo to cover the entire territory of Sudan, describing the measure as essential to curbing the violence and enhancing civilian protection. The UAE further called for safe, rapid, and unhindered humanitarian access to all affected communities.

As a member of the Sudan Quad, the UAE welcomed the outcomes of the Berlin Conference, particularly its focus on amplifying the voices of Sudanese civilians, and expressed support for the Quintet’s continued efforts to advance a civilian-led political process.

Concluding its remarks, the UAE reaffirmed that the international community must remain committed to supporting a comprehensive political settlement led by civilians, independent of the country’s warring factions and extremist groups, and reflective of the aspirations of the Sudanese people.
