Israel says it has killed Iran’s top security official, Ali Larijani, in a major escalation of the ongoing conflict. Defence Minister Israel Katz also claimed that Gholamreza Soleimani was killed in a separate strike overnight. Iranian authorities have not yet responded to these claims.
Meanwhile, Israeli air raids have struck multiple areas, including three neighbourhoods in Beirut, as well as targets in Tehran. In southern Lebanon, the army reported that five soldiers were wounded following an Israeli strike.
The conflict continues to spread across the region, with missile and drone attacks reported in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait, all of which say they have intercepted incoming threats.
On the diplomatic front, Germany stated it will not join the US-Israeli military campaign. European officials have also indicated there is little support among EU nations for deploying forces to secure the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran claims it has restricted to its adversaries.
