The UAE economy recorded steady growth in the first quarter of 2026, with real gross domestic product (GDP) expanding by 3 percent to AED485 billion at constant prices, driven largely by the continued strength of the country’s non-oil sectors.
According to figures released by the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Centre, non-oil economic activities grew by 4.8 percent during the period, increasing their contribution to the national economy to 79.4 percent, up from 78 percent in 2025. The data highlights the UAE’s continued success in diversifying its economy despite regional challenges that affected only a limited number of sectors.
The financial and insurance sector emerged as the strongest performer, posting an impressive 17.3 percent year-on-year growth and making the largest contribution to overall GDP expansion. Construction also delivered robust growth of 8.1 percent, while the human health and social work sector expanded by 7.7 percent.
Other industries continued to show positive momentum. Information and communication activities grew by 5.9 percent, while professional, scientific and technical services, together with administrative and support activities, increased by 4.9 percent. The real estate sector rose by 4.8 percent, public administration expanded by 4.5 percent, and wholesale and retail trade recorded growth of 2.6 percent.
Minister of Cabinet Affairs Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi said the latest economic performance reflects the effectiveness of the UAE’s long-term development policies and the government’s commitment to sustainable growth.
Minister of Economy and Tourism Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri said the figures demonstrate the country’s increasing global competitiveness and reinforce progress towards the “We the UAE 2031” Vision, which aims to grow the national economy to AED3 trillion by 2031.
Minister of State for Foreign Trade Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi attributed the positive performance to the UAE’s expanding international trade network. He noted that non-oil exports surged by 23.9 percent during the first half of 2026, reaching AED452.8 billion, supported by the country’s Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreements (CEPAs).
The UAE is also updating its GDP measurement framework by incorporating free zone activities and additional data sources to ensure greater accuracy and alignment with international statistical standards.
