Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces have claimed significant advances in western Taiz, capturing strategic mountain positions overlooking the coast as part of a renewed military offensive against Houthi forces.
The advances were reported under the government’s “Dawn of Yemen” operation, launched as internationally recognised Yemeni authorities intensify efforts to regain territory still controlled by the Houthis.
The latest developments come amid a sharp escalation in attacks across the region.
Saudi civil aviation authorities said Houthi attacks targeting Abha and King Khalid international airports on Tuesday and Wednesday killed three civilians and injured 36 others.
In response, Saudi-led coalition officials said they had launched a comprehensive military operation across Yemen, targeting Houthi military infrastructure.
Coalition officials claimed that 82 Houthi targets had been destroyed, including ballistic missile storage facilities and weapons depots.
The escalating fighting marks a significant deterioration in the security situation as government forces seek to reclaim Houthi-held territory while the rebels continue launching attacks against targets in Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB reported that international flights had resumed at Tehran’s Imam Khomeini International Airport, with an Iraqi Airways flight from Najaf becoming the first incoming service as two-way air traffic returned.
