DUBAI-The UAE has significantly boosted its space-based monitoring capacity after three newly launched Earth observation satellites—Foresight-3, Foresight-4, and Foresight-5—became fully operational, strengthening the country’s growing geospatial intelligence network.
Space42 confirmed on Tuesday that the satellites have completed commissioning and testing and are now actively enhancing the Foresight constellation, which now consists of five Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellites. The expansion is expected to deliver faster, more reliable, and higher-resolution Earth observation data to governments, businesses, and strategic partners globally.
Launched in November 2025, the satellites operate in mid-inclined Low Earth Orbit and improve coverage across regions where the majority of the world’s population lives. Their positioning allows for more frequent revisits and near real-time monitoring, regardless of weather conditions or time of day.
Developed in collaboration with Finland-based ICEYE, the satellites also reflect growing technology transfer and local capability-building within the UAE’s space sector. Key assembly, integration, and testing were completed at Space42 Space Systems’ facility in Abu Dhabi, supporting the country’s goal of building a sustainable domestic space industry.
Space42 executives say the expanded constellation strengthens sovereign Earth observation capabilities while enhancing the UAE’s competitiveness in the global geospatial intelligence market.
The satellites feed data into Space42’s AI-powered platform, GIQ, which processes raw imagery into actionable insights within minutes. The system supports applications such as disaster response, infrastructure monitoring, security operations, and predictive maintenance.
With imaging resolution of up to 25 centimetres and the ability to penetrate cloud cover, the constellation is designed for continuous surveillance and operational reliability.
Space42 also claims the AI-driven system could reduce emergency response times by up to 90%, cut predictive maintenance costs by 30%, and improve operational efficiency by around 25%.
The development aligns with the UAE’s National Space Strategy 2030, which prioritizes sovereign space infrastructure, advanced manufacturing, and AI integration. Industry forecasts suggest Earth observation services could generate over $700 billion in global value by 2030, underscoring the strategic importance of the sector.
The expansion of the Foresight constellation marks another step in positioning the UAE as a leading global hub for advanced space-based intelligence and data-driven decision-making.
