WASHINGTON — The Pentagon has reportedly subjected about 50 members of the US Joint Staff to polygraph examinations as part of an investigation into alleged leaks of sensitive information related to the war in Iran.

According to The New York Times, the investigation is examining the possible disclosure of classified information, including details about the impact of the conflict on US military supplies and a reported shortage of critical munitions.

The leak investigation comes as tensions between Washington and Tehran remain high, with US President Donald Trump once again threatening military action against Iran’s Pickaxe Mountain.

Trump repeated his warning that the strategic site could be targeted “very soon”, reviving a threat he first made in July.

Meanwhile, Iran has maintained that it remains prepared for further military confrontation.

Brigadier-General Alireza Elhami, Iran’s air defence commander, said the country was prepared to respond to any future threat, warning that the danger facing Iran had not ended.

“We are ready for any kind of confrontation,” Elhami said, adding that Iran would remain prepared both now and in the future.

The latest developments come amid continuing regional tensions following renewed US attacks on Iran and retaliatory strikes by Iranian forces against US military targets in the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain and other locations across the region.

At the same time, Washington has sought to distance itself from calls for the forced removal of Palestinians from Gaza.

The US State Department told Al Jazeera that Washington “does not support any plan” for the expulsion of Palestinians, following comments by Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz, who described depopulating Gaza as the only solution to the crisis.

The conflicting positions underscore the wider diplomatic and military tensions surrounding the Iran war, as the United States faces questions over military readiness, classified information leaks and the possibility of further escalation across the Middle East.
