WASHINGTON, D.C. – United States President Donald Trump says Washington is engaged in “very friendly talks” with Iran, raising hopes of easing months of conflict, although he indicated he is not prepared to enter lengthy negotiations with Tehran.
Trump’s remarks came as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrived in Washington for high-level talks, with the ongoing conflict involving Iran expected to dominate discussions between the two leaders.
Iran, however, struck a cautious tone, claiming the United States is searching for a way to end the war after months of escalating military confrontation.
Meanwhile, regional tensions remain high after Saudi Arabia condemned a drone attack launched by Iran-backed armed groups in Iraq. The drones reportedly targeted Riyadh and key oil facilities in the kingdom’s Eastern Province, raising fresh concerns over the security of global energy supplies.
The United Nations has also expressed alarm over the humanitarian situation in the region. UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk said his office had documented alleged violations of international law by Israel during military operations in Lebanon, warning that some incidents could amount to war crimes.
The latest diplomatic efforts come as the Middle East continues to face one of its most volatile security crises in recent years, with world powers closely watching whether negotiations can prevent further escalation.
