Direct Dubai Flights and Temporary Visa-Free Entry Drive Record Summer Travel Demand
DUBAI – Montenegro is rapidly becoming one of the most popular European holiday destinations for UAE residents this summer, thanks to a temporary visa-free entry policy, direct flights from Dubai and affordable travel packages.
The Balkan nation is offering eligible UAE residents visa-free entry until October 1, 2026, eliminating one of the biggest hurdles for travellers who would otherwise need to apply for a Schengen visa before visiting much of Europe.
Located on the Adriatic coast, Montenegro is renowned for its crystal-clear beaches, dramatic mountain landscapes, medieval towns and the scenic Bay of Kotor, providing many of the attractions associated with Western Europe at a lower cost.
The destination is less than five hours from Dubai, making it an appealing option for families and holidaymakers seeking a short European escape.
Affordable European Alternative
Round-trip airfares from Dubai generally range between Dh2,000 and Dh4,000, while holiday packages start from around Dh1,800 for budget travellers. Mid-range packages typically cost between Dh4,100 and Dh4,500, with luxury itineraries exceeding Dh6,700 during peak travel periods.
The combination of competitive pricing and simplified travel requirements has fuelled growing interest among UAE residents looking for hassle-free European vacations.
Strong Demand for Direct Flights
Currently, flydubai is the only airline operating direct seasonal flights between Dubai and Tivat.
Jeyhun Efendi, Divisional Senior Vice President for Commercial Operations and E-commerce at flydubai, said the airline has experienced consistent demand since launching the route in 2017.
He noted that Montenegro’s picturesque coastline, outdoor attractions and visa-free access for UAE residents have made it one of the airline’s most successful seasonal destinations. The carrier is operating four weekly flights this summer and has extended the service through October to accommodate increasing demand.
Travel Agencies Report Booking Surge
UAE travel companies say Montenegro has become one of the fastest-growing European destinations following the introduction of the temporary visa exemption.
Meerah Ketait, Head of Retail and Leisure UAE at dnata Travel, said simplified visa requirements are encouraging more travellers to book short European breaks.
She said Montenegro appeals to visitors looking for coastal scenery, outdoor adventures, cultural experiences and easier travel arrangements compared to traditional European destinations.
Musafir.com has also reported a sharp increase in customer interest.
According to Rashida Zahid, the company’s Vice President of Operations, enquiries for Montenegro have surged compared with the same period last year, with approximately one booking being confirmed for every two to three enquiries received.
Visa-Free Entry Requirements
Under regulations published by Montenegro’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, UAE residents can enter the country without a visa until October 1, 2026, provided they:
- Have held a valid UAE residence permit continuously for at least three years.
- Possess a passport valid for at least six months.
- Hold a confirmed return flight ticket.
- Have fully paid accommodation.
- Arrive on a direct flight from the UAE.
- Stay for no more than 10 days.
Proving UAE Residency
Travellers may be asked to demonstrate three years of continuous UAE residency. This can be done by presenting previous Emirates ID cards, accessing historical residency records through the ICP Smart Services portal or ICP mobile application, or obtaining official residency records from an Amer Centre in Dubai.
Alternative Entry Options
Travellers who do not qualify under the temporary UAE resident exemption may still enter Montenegro without a separate visa if they hold a valid Schengen visa or a valid visa or residence permit issued by the United States, United Kingdom or the Republic of Ireland. Eligible travellers may stay in Montenegro for up to 30 days, provided their visa remains valid throughout their visit.
