Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has introduced major updates to its driving licence training curriculum, ensuring new drivers are equipped to handle the latest vehicle safety and driver-assistance technologies.
The revised programme for light vehicle licence applicants now includes training on advanced systems commonly found in modern cars, such as:
- Forward collision warning
- Blind spot monitoring
- Lane departure warning
- Lane support systems
- Parking assist technology
- Night vision systems
- Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)
- Conventional and adaptive cruise control
According to the RTA, the updated curriculum aligns with internationally recognised standards and is designed to improve road safety, encourage responsible driving behaviour, and help reduce traffic accidents across Dubai.
Roads and Transport Authority said the enhancements were developed in collaboration with driving institutes and have already been integrated into driver handbooks, theoretical lessons, practical training sessions, and awareness lectures for licence applicants.
Sultan Al Akraf, Director of Drivers Licensing at the RTA, said the initiative supports Dubai’s broader vision of safer and smarter mobility while keeping pace with rapid developments in Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
The authority has also organised workshops for driving institutes to ensure instructors properly cover the new technologies in line with the specifications of modern training vehicles.
