SHARJAH, August 18, 2026 — The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has held talks with the Republic of Maldives on expanding economic and trade cooperation, with both sides exploring investment opportunities capable of delivering mutual benefits.
The discussions focused on several promising sectors, including fish storage and processing, date trading, hospitality and tourism. The two sides also examined ways to strengthen business links and facilitate greater investment between Sharjah and the Maldives.
SCCI Chairman Abdallah Sultan Al Owais met Maldivian Ambassador Thoriq Ibrahim and his accompanying delegation at the Chamber’s headquarters in Sharjah. The meeting was attended by Abdul Aziz Al Shamsi, Assistant Director-General for Communication and Business Sector at SCCI, Dr. Fatima Khalifa Al Muqarrab, Director of the International Relations Department, and other senior officials.
Al Owais welcomed the Maldivian delegation and reaffirmed the Chamber’s commitment to expanding economic partnerships between the business communities of Sharjah and the Maldives.
He highlighted Sharjah’s competitive investment environment, advanced logistics facilities and maritime infrastructure, describing the emirate as an attractive gateway for Maldivian companies seeking access to regional and international markets.
The Chairman also said the Chamber was ready to support Maldivian businesses and entrepreneurs through business facilitation services and by connecting them with companies and investors in Sharjah.
The Maldivian delegation welcomed the opportunity to strengthen ties with Sharjah, praising the emirate’s economic development and growing role as a regional and international business centre.
The delegation expressed particular interest in expanding cooperation in fish storage and processing, date trading, hospitality and tourism.
The meeting also explored opportunities for Sharjah to share its expertise in port operations, maritime infrastructure and logistics development. This comes as the Maldives seeks to expand its seaport network and upgrade its logistics infrastructure to support increasing trade and tourism activity.
Both sides agreed on the importance of developing sustainable partnerships and identifying practical opportunities to increase trade and investment between Sharjah and the Maldives.
