ABU DHABI, August 18, 2026 — The United Arab Emirates has expressed its solidarity with Zimbabwe and conveyed its condolences following the tragic capsizing of a passenger ferry on Lake Kariba that left dozens of people dead, injured and missing.

In a statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs extended its deepest sympathy to the families of those who lost their lives and to the government and people of Zimbabwe following the tragedy.

The ministry also wished those injured a speedy and full recovery, expressing the UAE’s support and solidarity with Zimbabwe during the difficult period.

The ferry accident has sparked concern and mourning as rescue teams continue efforts to account for those still missing.
