JERUSALEM/BEIRUT – June 26, 2026 – Israel has intensified its military campaign in southern Lebanon, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declaring that Israeli forces will not withdraw from occupied positions despite mounting international concern over the conflict.
The latest Israeli airstrikes targeted areas in southern Lebanon, where residents have been attempting to return to their homes following months of displacement. Lebanon’s armed group Hezbollah accused Israel of deliberately targeting civilians, claiming that two people were killed and another injured in the attacks.
The renewed violence comes as regional tensions continue to escalate despite ongoing diplomatic efforts.
Meanwhile, during a high-level meeting in Bahrain, United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that Washington and its Gulf allies had rejected any attempt by Iran to impose fees or restrictions on vessels transiting the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil shipping route.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), however, warned that all vessels passing through the strait would require authorization, raising fresh concerns over freedom of navigation and the possibility of further confrontation in one of the world’s most critical maritime corridors.
The developments underscore the fragile security situation across the Middle East, where the conflicts involving Israel, Lebanon, and Iran continue to threaten regional stability and international trade.
