DUBAI- Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that construction of the new bridge linking Sheikh Zayed Road directly to Dubai Harbour is now 90 percent complete, with the first phase scheduled to open later this month.
The 1,500-metre, four-lane bridge is designed to significantly improve access to Dubai Harbour, one of the emirate’s premier waterfront destinations. Once operational, it will accommodate up to 6,000 vehicles per hour in both directions and reduce travel times from approximately 12 minutes to just three minutes.
The bridge begins at Interchange 5 on Sheikh Zayed Road near the American University in Dubai and extends through the intersection of Al Naseem and Al Falak Streets, crossing King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street before connecting to Dubai Harbour Street.
The opening will take place in phases. In June, motorists travelling from Sheikh Zayed Road in both the Deira and Jebel Ali directions will be able to access Dubai Harbour via the new bridge. A second phase in July will enable traffic movement from Dubai Harbour towards Al Naseem Street, as well as from the bridge towards the King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street intersection.
The large-scale infrastructure project has required more than 4.2 million work hours and involved around 1,400 engineers and workers operating across 12 specialised teams. Construction works have utilised over 45,000 cubic metres of concrete and 8,273 tonnes of steel. The project also includes improvements to four major at-grade intersections along the route.
RTA Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors, Mattar Al Tayer, said the bridge demonstrates the success of public-private partnerships in delivering strategic infrastructure projects. Developed in collaboration with Shamal Holding, the project supports Dubai’s continued urban expansion and economic development while enhancing connectivity to Dubai Harbour, home to the Middle East’s largest yacht marina.
Chief Executive Officer Abdulla Binhabtoor described the bridge as a key milestone in the evolution of Dubai Harbour, reflecting the long-term investment strategy driving the destination’s growth and strengthening its position as a leading tourism and lifestyle hub.
The project is expected to improve traffic flow, boost accessibility, and support the increasing number of residents, visitors, and businesses operating within the Dubai Harbour district.
