Dubai Duty Free Signs MoU with Crypto.com to Explore Cryptocurrency Payments
Dubai Duty Free has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with global crypto leader Crypto.com, setting the stage for future cryptocurrency payment options at its retail outlets both in-store and online.
The agreement, signed at Emirates Headquarters in the presence of HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, aims to enhance customer convenience and strengthen digital transformation efforts. Ramesh Cidambi, Managing Director of Dubai Duty Free, and Mohammed Al Hakim, President of UAE Operations at Crypto.com, formalized the partnership.
The MoU outlines plans to explore crypto payment integration and develop joint marketing and customer engagement initiatives. This move aligns with Dubai Duty Free’s broader strategy of adopting innovative payment solutions to meet the evolving needs of global travellers.
Cidambi highlighted the potential of digital currencies in enhancing the retail experience, calling it a “forward-looking step” that supports Dubai Duty Free’s growth vision.
Crypto.com’s President and COO Eric Anziani echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the significance of the partnership in driving adoption of digital assets in the region.
This collaboration comes on the heels of a strong first half of 2025 for Dubai Duty Free, which posted AED 4.118 billion in turnover, a 5.34% increase year-on-year.
The initiative also supports the UAE’s national goals around financial innovation, as Dubai Duty Free continues to build a future-ready retail ecosystem through strategic technology partnerships.
Feasibility studies and planning for crypto payment integration are set to begin shortly.
