The fragile Middle East ceasefire is under renewed strain after the United States launched airstrikes on 10 Iranian military sites on Sunday, in retaliation for a drone attack on an oil tanker transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
The strikes, ordered by US President Donald Trump, followed an attack on a tanker carrying approximately two million barrels of crude oil. Trump warned that any further aggression could trigger a broader military response, raising fears of a wider regional conflict.
Kuwait Intercepts Ballistic Missiles
Kuwait’s Ministry of Defence confirmed that its armed forces intercepted two hostile ballistic missiles that entered the country’s airspace early Sunday. Officials said the missiles were neutralised according to approved operational procedures, with no casualties or property damage reported.
Military spokesperson Colonel Saud Abdulaziz Al Atwan said Kuwait’s armed forces remain on high alert and fully prepared to safeguard the nation’s security and protect both citizens and residents.
Bahrain Seeks Urgent UN Action
Bahrain has strongly condemned what it described as another Iranian missile and drone attack targeting the kingdom, calling on the United Nations Security Council to convene an emergency meeting.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Bahrain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the latest strike reflected a deliberate and repeated pattern of aggression against the kingdom’s sovereignty and the safety of its people.
The ministry urged the Security Council to enforce Resolution 2817 of 2026, hold those responsible accountable, and take decisive action to halt what it called Iran’s continued violations of international peace and security.
