ABU DHABI,  – More than 12,000 air-conditioned rest stations will be available across the UAE for delivery service workers this summer as the government intensifies efforts to protect outdoor workers from extreme temperatures.

The initiative, announced by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE), coincides with the implementation of the Occupational Heat Stress Prevention Policy, which comes into force from June 15 to September 15, 2026. Under the policy, outdoor work under direct sunlight is prohibited daily between 12:30pm and 3:00pm.

The cooling stations, equipped with essential amenities, are being provided in partnership with government agencies and private sector organisations. The programme marks the fourth consecutive year that the UAE has introduced dedicated rest facilities for delivery riders, reinforcing the country’s commitment to worker welfare and occupational safety.

MoHRE said the initiative reflects the UAE’s people-centred approach to labour rights and demonstrates the strong culture of social responsibility embraced by businesses and public institutions nationwide.

Unlike many workers who operate from fixed locations, delivery riders are constantly on the move. To address this challenge, riders will be able to locate the nearest cooling station through interactive digital maps available on mobile applications installed on their devices.

The ministry noted that delivery workers may choose, in coordination with their employers, whether to continue working or temporarily suspend operations during the restricted midday period.

Several key partners have joined the initiative, including Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Abu Dhabi Mobility, Departments of Economic Development across the emirates, and Emirates General Petroleum Corporation (Emarat). Leading delivery platforms such as Talabat, Deliveroo, Noon, Careem and Keeta have also pledged support, alongside numerous restaurants, shopping malls, retail outlets and cloud kitchens.

Officials said the rest stations form part of a broader summer safety campaign that includes inspections, awareness programmes and compliance monitoring. The goal is to reduce the health risks associated with prolonged exposure to intense heat while improving workers’ wellbeing, productivity and overall quality of life.

As temperatures continue to soar across the Gulf region, the UAE’s latest initiative is being hailed as another significant step towards safeguarding the thousands of workers who keep the nation’s fast-growing delivery sector moving.
