The President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has approved a new unified national health insurance system aimed at providing comprehensive healthcare coverage for all Emirati citizens across the country.

The new system is built around a fully integrated national health insurance framework that will cover all emirates, ensuring citizens have access to high-quality medical care and healthcare services regardless of where they live.

The initiative is also expected to strengthen preventative healthcare and support the transition towards a more sustainable national healthcare model.

Authorities said the new insurance system will further improve the efficiency of the UAE’s globally recognised healthcare sector by aligning services with the highest international standards. The reforms are also expected to enhance patient experiences through increased digitalisation, innovation, and interconnected healthcare platforms.

Officials described the directive as part of the UAE leadership’s commitment to guaranteeing universal access to advanced healthcare services and improving quality of life for citizens.

Ahmed bin Ali Al Sayegh said the directive reflects a national vision that places human health and wellbeing at the centre of the country’s development priorities.

He added that the UAE healthcare system is supported by an integrated federal and local framework, advanced medical infrastructure, digital health systems, and continued investment aimed at improving service quality and expanding healthcare accessibility throughout the country.
