ABU DHABI, July 8, 2026 — The United Arab Emirates has strongly condemned what it described as a hostile Iranian attack on the Saudi oil tanker Wedyan while the vessel was transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said the attack poses a serious threat to the safety and security of international maritime navigation and represents a dangerous escalation in one of the world’s most strategically important waterways.

The UAE reaffirmed its full solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, pledging support for all measures aimed at protecting Saudi vessels, safeguarding national interests, and ensuring the continued freedom of navigation in regional and international waters.

MoFA stressed that the attack constitutes a blatant violation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817, which upholds the principle of freedom of navigation and rejects attacks on commercial shipping or any attempts to disrupt international maritime routes.

The ministry further warned that targeting commercial vessels and using the Strait of Hormuz as a means of economic coercion or political pressure are unacceptable actions that threaten regional stability, global energy security, and the uninterrupted flow of international trade.
