DUBAI-US President Donald Trump says Washington will seek compensation from Iran for casualties suffered during the five-month conflict, adding a new layer to negotiations over the future of the Strait of Hormuz.
The demand comes days after Tehran called on the United States to compensate Iran for damage caused during the conflict, making payment a condition for reopening the strategically important waterway.
Trump has claimed that the Strait of Hormuz is now open, although tensions surrounding its operation and the broader US-Iran standoff remain high.
Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian says Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei delivered a message of unity during a recent seven-hour meeting.
Pezeshkian also sought to reassure the public about Khamenei’s condition, saying the supreme leader is in perfect health despite not appearing publicly since taking office.
Khamenei’s office has meanwhile announced several significant appointments as Iran’s leadership continues to consolidate its security structure.
Among the changes is the appointment of a former wartime commander and veteran political figure to lead the country’s highest security body, signalling continued efforts to strengthen Iran’s leadership amid the ongoing tensions with Washington.
