Visitors and residents who remain in the UAE beyond the validity of their visa may face fines and other immigration penalties. Once all outstanding fines and charges have been settled, those who need to leave the country may also be required to obtain an exit permit, also known as an out pass.

The application process is relatively straightforward, and applicants can apply through the relevant immigration service channels.

Documents required

Applicants generally need to provide:

  • A recent personal photograph
  • A copy of their passport
  • A copy of their entry visa or residence visa

Exit permit fees

The reported fees include:

  • Request fee: Dh200
  • Electronic service fee: Dh150

Payments are made online by credit card.

How to apply for an exit permit

The application process depends on where the applicant is located.

For people in Dubai, the application can be processed through an Amer Centre. Those in other emirates may need to visit an approved typing centre.

Seven steps for applicants in Dubai

  1. Visit the nearest Amer Centre.
  2. Create a user ID or log in using an existing account.
  3. Select the required exit-permit service.
  4. Submit the necessary documents to the service employee.
  5. Allow the documents to be verified.
  6. Pay the applicable service fees.
  7. Submit the completed application.

Anyone who has overstayed should ensure that any outstanding immigration fines or charges are resolved before attempting to leave the UAE.
