RANGWE, Kenya — Kagan Open Troop has announced a strategic partnership with SomoTech Africa aimed at equipping young people with critical digital skills through specialised training in coding and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The initiative forms part of the troop’s expanding Digital Literacy Programme, which seeks to prepare young people for opportunities in an increasingly technology-driven world while addressing the growing demand for digital competencies across Africa.
Under the partnership, SomoTech Africa has provided ten training slots for a Coding with Artificial Intelligence programme that will introduce participants to emerging technologies and practical coding skills.
The first training session will start on 28 July 2026.
Kagan Open Troop said the opportunities will be extended beyond its membership to include Rover Scouts from various crews across Rangwe Sub-County, ensuring wider access and greater community impact.
Speaking to Daily Times Newspaper, Kagan Open Troop founder Benjamin Odoyo (Pictured) said the partnership represents a major step toward preparing young people for the future of work and innovation.
“The world is changing rapidly, and technology is now at the center of almost every profession. Through this partnership with SomoTech Africa, we want to ensure that our young people are not merely consumers of technology but creators of solutions that can transform their communities and improve lives,” he said.
He noted that Artificial Intelligence is becoming one of the most influential technologies of the 21st century and stressed the importance of giving young people access to such knowledge at an early stage.
“Many young people in rural communities are at risk of being left behind in the digital revolution due to limited access to training and resources. Our goal is to bridge that gap by providing opportunities that expose them to coding, AI, innovation, and critical thinking skills. These are competencies that will be essential in tomorrow’s economy,” he added.
The program is expected to provide participants with hands-on exposure to coding, problem-solving, and AI technologies, helping them build competencies that can support future careers, entrepreneurship ventures, and community-based innovation.
SomoTech Africa is recognized for using technology to address challenges in education, climate resilience, and healthcare. Through the partnership, the organization will support Kagan Open Troop’s vision of developing digitally empowered youth capable of contributing solutions to local and global challenges.
