Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says its forces are conducting nightly operations against vessels accused of violating Tehran’s rules in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, raising fresh concerns over maritime security and global oil supplies.
IRGC Navy political deputy Hossein Mohebbi said Iranian forces were targeting ships considered to be breaching the country’s regulations in the key waterway.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has said Washington is engaged in “productive discussions” with Iran and pledged not to launch an attack against the country before the November 3 US midterm elections.
The developments have heightened uncertainty over the conflict and the safety of international shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global energy supplies.
Oil prices climbed by approximately four percent amid renewed fears of an escalation in the US-Iran conflict and potential disruptions to shipping. Brent crude settled at $104.28 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude closed at $91.49.
In a further move against Tehran, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Washington would continue targeting individuals and entities accused of facilitating Iranian oil sales.
The US Treasury Department has imposed sanctions on 27 companies, six individuals and 22 vessels as part of its efforts to restrict Iran’s oil trade.
The latest developments come as diplomatic engagement continues alongside growing military and economic pressure, with the Strait of Hormuz remaining a major flashpoint for regional stability and international energy markets.
