Dubai, UAE –Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has unveiled a cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) system designed to manage the city’s bus operations in real time, significantly reducing response times and improving the efficiency of public transport services.
The intelligent decision-support platform now monitors and coordinates a fleet of more than 1,100 buses, enabling transport controllers to make operational decisions in less than one minute—a process that previously required between 30 and 60 minutes.
Developed by the RTA Public Transport Agency’s Bus Operations Control Centre in collaboration with the Artificial Intelligence Centre under the Corporate Technology Support Services Sector, the system is capable of handling 26 different operational scenarios. It allows transport managers to respond rapidly to changing traffic conditions, service disruptions, and fluctuations affecting other modes of transport, including the Dubai Metro and Dubai Tram.
According to Marwan Al Zarooni, Director of Buses at the RTA Public Transport Agency, the AI-driven platform enhances operational efficiency by accelerating decision-making and improving the allocation of buses across the network.
The solution is powered by RTA’s enterprise Dataiku platform, which combines real-time data, machine learning, and advanced optimisation algorithms to instantly identify and deploy the most suitable buses based on current demand while maintaining reliable service levels.
Officials say the initiative forms part of Dubai’s wider strategy to embrace advanced digital technologies that enhance mobility, increase sustainability, and strengthen the emirate’s position as one of the world’s leading smart cities.
The RTA noted that continued investment in AI and intelligent transport solutions will help deliver faster, more reliable, and more flexible public transport services for residents and visitors alike.
