Dubai Police has warned young people and social media influencers against promoting or selling counterfeit products online, stressing that such activities are illegal and could lead to serious legal consequences in the UAE.

Authorities said many fake online businesses are targeting young people with offers to advertise or sell imitation watches, perfumes, clothing, and accessories through personal social media accounts. These schemes often promise quick profits but may involve individuals in criminal activities without them fully understanding the risks.

Major Omar Hassan Nasser explained that some youths mistakenly believe selling counterfeit goods online is an easy way to make extra money. However, he stressed that this violates UAE intellectual property and trademark protection laws under Federal Law No. 36 of 2021.

Police warned that ignorance of the law does not protect offenders from prosecution, even if they were unaware the products were fake.

Authorities added that illegal trade on social media can:

  • Damage reputations
  • Reduce trust among followers and customers
  • Harm the UAE economy and legitimate businesses
  • Mislead consumers into buying fake products marketed as genuine

Dubai Police urged influencers, online sellers, and e-store owners to carefully verify suppliers, ensure products are authentic, and only work with licensed businesses that provide official invoices.

Officials also reaffirmed that the UAE remains committed to protecting intellectual property rights and fighting commercial counterfeiting through strict laws and strong enforcement measures.
