ENOC Group and Dubai Municipality have partnered to explore converting used cooking oil collected across Dubai into biodiesel as the emirate steps up efforts to reduce waste and promote cleaner energy.
The agreement was signed by ENOC Deputy Managing Director of Commercial and Retail Ali Khalid bin Zayed Al Falasi and Dubai Municipality Waste and Sewerage Agency CEO Eng. Adel Mohammed Al Marzouqi during WETEX 2026. Dubai Municipality Director General Eng. Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita and ENOC Group CEO Hussain Sultan Lootah witnessed the signing.
Under the proposed initiative, used cooking oil from restaurants, businesses and households will be collected for processing at ENOC’s facility in Jebel Ali.
Dubai Municipality will coordinate and oversee the collection and recovery process to prevent the improper disposal of cooking oil, while ENOC will contribute its expertise in fuel production and supply.
The partnership supports the UAE Circular Economy Policy 2031, which promotes efficient resource use, waste reduction and sustainable economic development.
Al Falasi said converting waste into fuel could increase access to cleaner energy, boost local production and contribute to a lower-carbon economy.
Al Marzouqi said the initiative would improve resource recovery, reduce waste and support Dubai’s transition towards cleaner energy.
ENOC introduced Biodiesel5 to the UAE market in 2017 and has since expanded its biodiesel products for customers in the transport, logistics and construction sectors. The group has also invested in local biodiesel production at its Jebel Ali facility.
At WETEX 2026, ENOC is showcasing a biodiesel delivery truck and a COBUS hydrogen bus as it engages government entities, industry partners and customers on the adoption of alternative fuels.
