Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority has opened a new four-lane bridge at the intersection of Al Qudra Road and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, completing the traffic configuration at one of the city’s busiest junctions.

The 700-metre bridge, opened on Sunday, sits on the southern side of the intersection and carries up to 6,000 vehicles per hour along Al Qudra Road towards Al Qudra City. It follows the opening of a matching bridge on the opposite side last February, which serves traffic heading from Al Qudra City towards Umm Suqeim.

Together, the two structures lift the intersection’s overall capacity from 7,800 to 19,400 vehicles per hour and cut waiting times by 85 per cent, down from nearly seven minutes to just one.

RTA Director General Mattar Al Tayer said the works form part of a wider plan to strengthen connectivity across Dubai’s key corridors and keep pace with the emirate’s population growth. He noted that the broader Al Qudra Road Development Project spans 4,000 metres of new bridges and an 11.6-kilometre upgrade of the road itself, cutting journey times by 70 per cent and serving over 400,000 residents and visitors.

Further upgrades are due in the fourth quarter of 2026, with side ramp bridges of 500 and 900 metres set to open, linking Al Qudra Road to Jebel Ali, Downtown Dubai and Dubai International Airport. Three kilometres of new service roads will also be built alongside Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street.

Al Qudra Road runs between Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road, serving major communities including Arabian Ranches, Dubai Motor City, Dubai Studio City, Mudon, DAMAC Hills and The Sustainable City. The project supports Dubai’s 2040 Urban Master Plan and aims to reduce congestion while boosting investment across the corridor.
