DUBAI: The UAE experienced a dramatic contrast in weather on Wednesday, with temperatures soaring to 51.2°C while heavy convective clouds brought rainfall to parts of the Al Dhafra region.
According to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), the country’s highest temperature was recorded in Budu Dafs, Al Dhafra, at 12:45 p.m., marking one of the hottest days of the summer.
Despite the intense heat, unstable weather conditions developed during the afternoon, triggering rainfall in the Bada Zayed area of Al Dhafra as convective clouds spread across several parts of the country.
The NCM said cloud activity was expected between 1:30 p.m. and 10 p.m., with weather systems affecting large areas of Al Dhafra, as well as parts of Al Ain and the Ras Al Khaimah–Fujairah border.
Videos and images shared on social media showed rain falling over Bada Zayed on Wednesday afternoon, with local weather observers reporting moderate to good rainfall in the area.
Meteorologists warned that the unstable weather could bring sudden showers, fresh winds, and reduced visibility in affected areas. Residents have been urged to monitor official weather updates and exercise caution while travelling during periods of changing conditions.
The NCM said it will continue monitoring the developing weather system and issue further advisories if conditions intensify.
