Lamine Yamal has once again declared his ambition to win the UEFA Champions League with FC Barcelona, following the club’s painful quarterfinal elimination at the hands of Atlético Madrid.

Despite a 2–1 victory in the second leg, Barcelona’s earlier 2–0 defeat proved costly, ending their European campaign. The day after the exit, the 18-year-old forward took to social media with a message of resilience and commitment, assuring fans that he remains determined to bring the prestigious trophy back to the Catalan giants.

“We are Barca, and we will be back where we belong,” Yamal shared. He emphasized the values instilled in him growing up, stating that a promise must be honoured, and reaffirmed his belief that success in Europe will come.

Yamal, who found the net in the decisive match, acknowledged the disappointment but framed it as part of the journey toward greatness. He stressed that setbacks are lessons, not failures, and insisted that giving up is not an option for a team with Barcelona’s history and ambition.

The young star has made similar vows before, notably after last season’s semifinal loss to Inter Milan. His mindset reflects a long-term vision, one rooted in growth, persistence, and belief in the squad’s potential.

Barcelona last lifted the Champions League trophy in 2015, inspired by the brilliance of Lionel Messi. Since then, the club has been striving to return to the summit of European football.

Off the pitch, tensions remain high. Club president Joan Laporta strongly criticised the officiating across both legs, calling it unacceptable and confirming that a formal complaint will be lodged with UEFA. Forward Raphinha may also face disciplinary action after publicly expressing frustration over the refereeing decisions.

Meanwhile, head coach Hansi Flick struck a more measured tone, pointing to the squad’s youth and the importance of learning from such experiences. He expressed confidence that the team will grow stronger and more competitive with time.

Domestically, Barcelona remain in control, holding a commanding lead at the top of La Liga as they shift focus back to securing silverware at home.

For Yamal, however, the message is clear: this chapter may have ended in disappointment, but the story is far from over.
