Sharjah: In a major joint operation called “Bottom of Darkness,” Sharjah Police’s Anti-Narcotics Department, working with Abu Dhabi Police and in coordination with the Federal Anti-Narcotics Department at the Ministry of Interior, successfully stopped an attempt to sell more than 3.5 million Captagon pills. The drugs were targeted at young people.

This was a proactive strike against a criminal gang that had been carefully tracked. The gang tried to use smart hiding techniques to cover up the drugs and avoid being caught, but their plan failed as the security teams quickly stepped in and shut it down.

Brigadier Majid Sultan Al Asam, Director of the Anti-Narcotics Department at Sharjah Police, said “The carefully planned operation led to the seizure of around 3.5 million Captagon pills, weighing about 585 kilograms, with a street value of over Dh19 million.”

He explained that the drugs were found thanks to detailed monitoring and investigation. The gang had buried the pills underground and covered them with interlock floor tiles to hide them from the authorities. However, police analysis teams managed to uncover this trick, find the hiding spot, and arrest those involved within the country.

Brigadier Al Asam stressed that this success came as a result of teamwork, precise intelligence work, and extensive investigation efforts.

He also pointed out that drug dealers are now using new and deceptive methods to push drugs, including social media platforms to reach young people. But thanks to the skills and advanced technology of the UAE police, these criminal plans are being stopped quickly and forcefully.

He added that the details of this operation were shared with all anti-narcotics units across the UAE to strengthen the federal efforts against drug smuggling and to stay ahead of organized crime networks that constantly try new ways to reach their targets—especially young people.

Brigadier Al Asam emphasised that these security successes can only happen when everyone works together. He thanked the Federal Anti-Narcotics Department at the Ministry of Interior for their coordination, and Abu Dhabi Police’s Anti-Narcotics team for their collaboration and efforts to combat these dangerous crimes. He highlighted that these joint efforts are a strong example of committed, responsible work that helps keep our communities safe.

He also called on the public to continue working closely with the police by reporting any suspicious drug-related activities via the toll-free number 8004654 or by email at [email protected]).

He stressed that public awareness and cooperation are the first line of defense against drugs and that the role of families and society is key to protecting young people and securing their future from the dangers of addiction.
