The United Arab Emirates has officially confirmed the sighting of the crescent moon marking the start of Dhu Al Hijjah on Sunday evening, 29 Dhu Al Hijjah 1447 AH, corresponding to May 17, 2026.
The announcement followed reports submitted by national moon-sighting committees, astronomy specialists, and observatories across the country. Authorities stated that the confirmation was based on a coordinated system combining traditional sighting methods with advanced astronomical technology.
As a result, Monday, May 18, 2026, has been declared the first day of Dhu Al Hijjah in the UAE, setting the timeline for the upcoming Hajj season and the annual Eid celebrations.
The Day of Arafah will fall on May 26, while Eid Al Adha will be observed on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, marking one of the most significant festivals in the Islamic calendar.
Public sector employees in the UAE are expected to observe an official holiday period aligned with these dates, with work resuming on June 1.
In the private sector, final holiday confirmations are still awaited, although government announcements suggest an extended break for many employees.
For Dubai private schools, the academic calendar sets the Eid break from May 25 to May 29, with classes scheduled to resume on June 1.
Authorities extended greetings to residents, students, and families across the country, wishing them a peaceful and blessed festive period as the nation prepares for the upcoming celebrations.
