A high-level delegation led by Pakistan’s army chief, Asim Munir, has held strategic discussions in Iran with senior officials, signalling a renewed diplomatic push to restart negotiations between Iran and the United States.

According to officials, there is growing optimism that a fresh round of talks could soon take place, potentially hosted in Islamabad. A spokesperson from the White House indicated that continued dialogue remains likely, reflecting cautious hope for de-escalation between the long-standing rivals.

However, tensions remain high. Abbas Araghchi and Iranian military leaders have issued stark warnings, suggesting that Tehran could move to block key trade routes, including the Red Sea, the Gulf, and the Sea of Oman, should the United States maintain its naval blockade of Iranian ports.

Meanwhile, political divisions in Washington persist. The United States Senate has voted against a Democratic-backed resolution that sought to halt US military involvement in Iran without formal authorisation from Congress.

In a parallel development, violence continues to ripple across the region. Israel has carried out fresh strikes in Lebanon, reportedly killing four paramedics and injuring six others during an emergency response operation in southern Lebanon.

As diplomatic efforts intensify, the region remains delicately poised between negotiation and further escalation.
