Tehran/Doha- Iran has described the Strait of Hormuz as its “greatest instrument of power,” underscoring its strategic importance amid ongoing diplomatic efforts involving the United States and Qatar.
Speaking on Wednesday, Iran’s chief negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, said negotiations on a final agreement with the United States would only begin after the provisions of the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) have been fully implemented.
Meanwhile, in Doha, Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani held meetings with US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner as part of efforts to advance regional diplomacy.
Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that Iranian negotiators are also in Doha for technical discussions, noting that the talks could take place either directly or indirectly.
Separately, tensions remain high along Israel’s northern border. Israel says it has killed another Hezbollah fighter in southern Lebanon. Israeli media also reported that the planned withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Zawthar and Faroun pilot zones has been postponed, raising further questions about the security situation in the area.
