DUBAI, October 26, 2026 — Dubai is set to strengthen its position as a global investment hub following the approval of a new centre dedicated to research, technology and policy development for economic zones.
His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ), approved the establishment of the Global Centre for Research and Technology for Economic Zones.
The centre will develop policies, international standards and research to help economic zones attract foreign investment, boost trade and accelerate technology transfer.
The initiative aligns with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 and the UAE Vision 2031.
According to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, more than 8,000 special economic zones operate across more than 140 countries, supporting over 100 million jobs worldwide.
The new centre will focus on research, international benchmarks, policy advice, operational standards, consultancy, training and global partnerships. It will also support regulatory sandboxes to test new policies and business models.
DIEZ Executive Chairman Dr Mohammed Al Zarooni said the initiative would transform Dubai’s experience in developing economic zones into a structured platform for research, knowledge creation and practical solutions.
The centre will be developed through a phased roadmap involving specialised databases, research and consultancy capabilities, alongside partnerships with governments, universities and private-sector organisations.
Its governance structure will include a board of seven to nine members and a global advisory committee comprising 15 to 25 experts.
The centre’s performance will be measured through indicators such as investment attracted, new projects, job creation, trade growth and knowledge transfer.
