Houthi forces have launched ballistic missiles towards Aden International Airport in Yemen, while Saudi Arabia says it intercepted another missile north of the capital, Riyadh.
The missile attack on Aden, a key airport in the southern port city controlled by Yemen’s internationally recognised government, caused no reported casualties.
The latest escalation comes as fighting continues between Houthi rebels and Saudi-backed Yemeni forces, with the conflict having devastated Yemen after nearly a decade of war.
Saudi-backed Yemeni forces also reported making gains in the Jabal Habashi district of Taiz, saying they had strengthened their control over the area’s highest peak as part of an operation dubbed “Dawn of Yemen”.
The Saudi-led coalition has accused the Houthis of using territory under their control, including the capital Sanaa and the northern governorates of Saada and Amran, as launch points for missile attacks targeting Saudi Arabia.
The latest attacks come amid heightened regional tensions involving Iran and its allies.
US President Donald Trump, speaking in Maryland, said the ongoing Iran war would end either through what he described as “the nice way or the not-so-nice way”, suggesting that developments could determine which course is taken.
The missile exchanges further raise concerns over the potential expansion of regional hostilities and their impact on Yemen and neighbouring Gulf states.
