WASHINGTON — US President Donald Trump has denied reports that his administration offered Iran sanctions relief and access to frozen funds as Washington and Tehran continue indirect talks.
Trump dismissed the report as a “hoax” in a social media post, rejecting claims that the United States had proposed easing sanctions as part of diplomatic efforts with Iran.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, meanwhile, confirmed that Tehran had held further indirect discussions with the United States through Qatari mediators in New York.
Araghchi said Iran was awaiting Washington’s formal response, which was expected by Tuesday.
The latest diplomatic contacts come as the two sides remain engaged in efforts to address their differences, with the United States continuing to push for negotiations over Iran’s nuclear programme.
Separately, the United Arab Emirates confirmed that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan during a visit to Abu Dhabi over the weekend.
The developments come amid heightened diplomatic activity in the region, with Gulf states playing a role in efforts to facilitate dialogue between regional and international powers.
