ABU DHABI — The European Union has highlighted growing cooperation with the United Arab Emirates across trade, investment, artificial intelligence, climate action, technology and regional security.
In a statement issued by the Delegation of the European Union to the UAE, the EU said its relationship with the Emirates had developed from diplomatic ties into a broad economic, political and security partnership.
The statement, titled “With the United Arab Emirates, consistently,” said the partnership had been strengthened by geographical proximity, expanding economic relations and a shared commitment to prosperity, security and long-term stability.
The EU said it remains the UAE’s largest investment partner, while the UAE is the bloc’s second-largest trading partner.
The two sides are also expanding cooperation in emerging areas, including artificial intelligence, technology and the green economy, while working to strengthen links between Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.
The EU said cooperation built around COP28, which was hosted by the UAE, had created further opportunities to advance climate and green-economy initiatives.
Education and people-to-people links are also part of the partnership, with dozens of European schools operating in the UAE alongside partnerships between European and Emirati universities.
On security, the EU said it had supported the UAE as new pressures emerged in the region amid the war, with both sides working to strengthen stability in the UAE and the wider region.
The EU said the partnership would continue to evolve as both sides seek to respond to changing economic, technological, environmental and security challenges.
“True partnership is measured not only by the moments we celebrate, but by our ability to stand together when stability is tested,” the statement said.
