ABU DHABI, September 15, 2026 (WAM) — The United Arab Emirates has allocated $8 million in humanitarian assistance to Chad to help address the impact of the El Niño climate phenomenon and its worsening effects on food security.
The support, directed by President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and channelled through the UAE Aid Agency, will target communities facing increased risks of hunger, malnutrition and loss of livelihoods.
Dr Tareq Ahmed Al Ameri, Chairman of the UAE Aid Agency, said the UAE remained committed to supporting vulnerable communities affected by climate-related disasters and humanitarian emergencies.
He said extreme weather conditions, including rising temperatures, changing rainfall patterns and water shortages, were placing additional pressure on agricultural production, food supplies and livelihoods.
According to Al Ameri, the UAE’s response in Chad will focus on strengthening food security and providing assistance to people most affected by hunger and malnutrition.
The programme will also support early recovery and improve the ability of vulnerable communities to withstand future climate-related shocks.
The UAE Aid Agency said its broader humanitarian efforts include initiatives to combat hunger and malnutrition, strengthen food security, support recovery and build resilience among communities affected by climate-related crises.
