Thousands of students across the Gulf will get another opportunity to sit for board exams cancelled earlier this year

DUBAI: India’s Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced special Class 12 examinations for students in the UAE and other West Asian countries whose board exams were disrupted by regional tensions earlier this year.

The decision, announced on September 15, follows a directive from India’s Supreme Court and applies to students whose results were declared under the CBSE Assessment Scheme.

CBSE said the special examinations will cover 40 subjects, comprising 20 academic subjects and 20 skill-based subjects.

The affected examinations had previously been cancelled because of the security situation in the region at the time they were scheduled.

“In compliance with the decision of the Hon’ble Supreme Court in CWP-815 of 2026, CBSE has now decided to conduct examinations for all such Class XII candidates in West Asian countries,” the board said in its notification.

The examinations will cover candidates whose results were assessed under the alternative scheme for the subjects that were previously cancelled.

The move provides affected students in the UAE and other Gulf countries with an opportunity to sit for the examinations rather than rely solely on results awarded under the assessment scheme.

CBSE is expected to release further details on the examination schedule and arrangements.
